342 - Finished at Last!

So the glue on the flowers is all done and it's been put together. I really like the way it turned out.
After the competition it will be for sale at The Emporium.

The flowers are removable as they have pinbacks attached to them. So it's a cowl and a rainbow flower brooch set! Totally awesome!

340 - My Soper Creek Competition Piece

So in the end it became a cowl. I finished the scarflette but when laid flat, the way it would probably be displayed at the store, it had no oomph. It looked great on, but no one would know that. So I stitched it up, closed the button hole and voila! A cowl!

I also made a flower in each of the colours, attached pinbacks and a white button to each of them. Pretty cool I'd say. I'll show off the flowers when the glue is done drying.

338 - Soper Creek Yarn Competition

So I finally got a chance to go to Soper Creek Yarn today. It's an awesome yarn shop in the heart of Bowmanville that's owned by a wonderful, friendly lady named Tina.

There was a basket that had bags of 5 balls of Mission Falls 1824 and a sheet of information with it.
For $5 you buy this bag and have a month to make something totally awesome with all of it. You can add yarn from your own stash but you must use all the colours that come in the kit.

I took one look at the kit and it told me that it wanted to be a rainbow scarflette.

I came home and went through my stash knowing exactly was I was looking for. Despite Mission Falls 1824 being Aran and Bernat Softee Chunky being chunky, they appear to be pretty much the same weight.

Paul thinks a scarflette is too boring for this contest, I think it's going to be awesome, besides, that's what the yarn told me it was going to be. I can't argue with yarn!

336 - Meet The Newest Hynes

The Pet Valu at the Bowmanville Mall carries cats from the Durham Humaine Society. We went in on Sunday and Paul noticed the largest cat we had ever seen. Even bigger than my old neighbours Maine Coone.
We asked about him. His name was Mr. Tom Sawyer.

With a name like that, how could we resist? We brought home an application form for him and talked to my sister about it. We didn't want to get a fourth cat if she was dead set against it (for those of you just tuning in, my sister owns the house that we rent). She said we were crazy but she didn't care. So we filled in the form and brought it in. Yesterday morning we heard back from them, we seemed like a great home for Mr. Tom Sawyer and to come in and bring him home.

He's an awesome fit in our family. Cory doesn't seem to like him too much since she's the Alpha cat.
Elly seems intrigued and I think in enough time she and Mr. Tom Sawyer will be great friends. He's easily 2.5 times her size though so she's a little intimidated. They're the same age, 4.
Claypool, being 19 and stone deaf, only seems mildly annoyed, more so now that he's eaten her food and slept in her wicker basket.
Most importantly, he tolerates Ash. Which is impressive since Ash is a nuclear powered sound and motion machine (we're pretty sure he has ADHD but that's for another entry).

We have all grown super fond of Mr. Tom Sawyer despite only having been with us for 36 some hours. He is just that awesome. He seems to think we're pretty swell too.

334 - I'm Going To Like It Here

We had just finished lunch today when someone came to our door. It was a delightful woman named Carol from the Welcome Wagon. Dude, the Welcome Wagon. She sat with us at our dining room table and told us all about the stuff to do and services available here. Wow. What a fabulous little friendly town.
Thank you Bowmanville for being totally awesome.

332 - Explain This To Me

Because it just blows my mind...

331 - Honey, I'm Home!

Hello my darling Redd-Heads!
Everyone has arrived in Bowmanville safe and sound.
Our house is even bigger than we had originally thought, even with all of our stuff set up. Our main floor managed to have room for Ash's play room, our living room AND a dining room.
Rogers screwed up with our internet so instead of getting it on Saturday we didn't get it until yesterday morning. 4 days without internet is entirely too long.

Since moving here we've been eating at home more often now that we're settled. Last night I made a delicious Thai chicken dish in our brand new Crock-Pot!  And yes, it is a Crock-Pot brand so I don't have to say slow cooker lol.

So far Bowmanville is fabulous. Everyone here is so nice. If you pass someone on the street, they say hello to you. Being from a big city this seems so insanely foreign to me. It's nice.

Anyways, that's all for now. I have to go dig through my studio and try and get it organized so I can re-open the shops.

Also, Unikeys!

I want these SO badly for my new house keys but they don't ship to Canada. FOR SHAME! Canada is awesome and we love stuff too! At my hubby's suggestion I went on over to Ebay to see if anyone had these and someone did! And they ship to Canada! Yippiekayyay! Thanks gardener55!
